The Essence of Achievement
"The credit belongs to those people who are actually in the arena . . .
who know the great enthusiasms, the great devotions to a worthy cause;
who at best, know the triumph of high achievement; and who, at worst,
fail while daring greatly, so that their place shall never be with
those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat."
Theodore Roosevelt
The Basics:
Hickory Willow
Swimming Association is a year round competitive age group swimming
team for swimmers of age six through eighteen. The club swims out
of Amos Alonzo Stagg High School and competes in the South Suburban
Swimming Conference, where we have been one of the top teams for over
twenty years.
Our
Philosophy:
Our first goal is simply to have as much fun
as possible. When kids, well truthfully anyone, are having fun
there is an increase in enjoyment and commitment in
what is being
done. "Swimming is fun" and we never let our swimmers forget
that.
Our second goal is to teach the swimmers the proper
techniques and most importantly the reason behind them first. "You have to swim
RIGHT, before you can swim FAST!"
We try to teach our swimmers the power they have
with inside of them. That if they believe they can accomplish
something and are willing to do anything it takes to achieve it,
anything can be done. It's amazing what people can accomplish
when they believe in themselves. We try to instill this into all of our
swimmers. To see an example of what swimmers can do when they
believe, take a look at our team achievements.
